2021 Emera Chris Huskilson Scholarship Winner
Emera is proud to announce the 2021 recipient of the Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship.
Mathew Cormier of Cole Harbour, NS, was chosen as this year’s winner of the $40,000 Chris Huskilson Scholarship. The award was established in 2018 to support Atlantic Canadian students studying natural science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship, or mathematics at a university in our region.
Mathew has always achieved academic excellence despite living with ADHD. It’s been his lifelong dream to become an engineer. Mathew is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering program at Dalhousie University, where he will gain exposure to several engineering disciplines before choosing to focus on power, electrical, or nuclear engineering. He’s passionate about electronics and aspires to help develop solutions to large-scale issues, such as the need for more renewable energy in Nova Scotia.
Mathew loves music and plays guitar and sings in a band. He also works part-time. Earning the Emera Chris Huskilson Scholarship relieves the financial burden of tuition for him and his family.
“This scholarship will allow me to afford school independently without having to take out loans or worry about having to overwork myself to be able to pay for tuition,” said Mathew.
In addition to receiving $10,000 annually over four years, Mathew will also be eligible for a paid 12-week internship with an Emera company and have the opportunity to be mentored by a senior leader.
Scholarships are an essential part of our commitment to helping build safer, stronger and more innovative communities. By supporting students, we help to foster the leaders of tomorrow – not just future leaders in our business, but our communities as well.
