Emera Environmental Policy

Across Emera, we're committed to working in a way that's respectful and protective of the environment. Each Emera operating company follows a clearly defined environmental policy and management framework. Emera's Environmental Policy requires companies that are exposed to environmental risk in their daily business, business alliances, partnerships or prospective ventures, to:

  • Make environmental considerations an integral part of decision making as they pursue value for shareholders and quality services to customers
  • Develop, verify and continually improve environmental management systems through strong management leadership and employee commitment
  • Consider pollution prevention as the first option in preference over control or clean-up
  • Work with employees and customers to promote the most efficient use of resources, products and services
  • Communicate with all stakeholders on environmental performance in a proactive and open manner.

This Policy applies to all employees, visitors, contractors, vendors and suppliers working at an Emera workplace.

Environmental Governance

Field Engineering 2 (1)_resized

Each of our operating companies has a team dedicated to managing environmental performance and risk, as well as a senior leader who reports into the local executive team and works closely with the Emera Director of Environmental Governance. Local and corporate-level scorecards contain targets relevant to our environmental performance to ensure our strategic goals are delivered.

Environmental Management Systems

Emera companies manage environmental risks through an Environmental Management System (EMS) that meets the ISO 14001 international standard. An EMS is a set of tools and processes that allow our companies to better manage environmental aspects and set goals to improve environmental performance.
