Gil Quiniones joined the Emera Board of Directors in August 2021.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the energy industry, Gil’s career has spanned regulated and unregulated utility markets, public utilities, and state and local governments. Since 2011, he has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Power Authority (NYPA). In this capacity he is playing a key role in state-led energy reform initiatives to empower customers and encourage the growth of clean renewable energy and energy efficiency. He also works closely with New York’s 47 municipal and co-op utilities.
Previously, as the NYPA’s Chief Operating Officer, Gil was responsible for the operation of 18 power plants and more than 2,250 km (1,400 miles) of transmission line throughout New York state. He first joined the NYPA as Executive Vice President, Energy Marketing and Corporate Affairs in 2007.
Earlier in his career, Gil served as Senior Vice President of Energy and Telecommunications for New York City’s Economic Development Corporation, and Co-Founder and Managing Director of Energy Services for ConEdison Solutions in New York.
Gil is a member of many not-for-profit boards and energy research associations in the U.S., including Chair of GridWise Alliance, past Chair and current board member of the Electric Power Research Institute, and Chair-Elect of the Smart Electric Power Alliance. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career including the Energy Thought Summit’s Thought Leader of the Year award in 2019. He was also named Smart Electric Power Alliance Power Player of the Year in 2017, an award that recognizes those on front lines of energy transformation in the United States.
Gil earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. He lives in New York with his family.
