Christopher Huskilson

Chris began his career with Nova Scotia Power in 1980. His early work was in the area of software engineering, installing monitoring control systems, and commissioning the Annapolis Tidal Plant. He has held the positions of Superintendent of Hydro Production at the Mersey Hydro System, Senior Operations Planner at the Energy Control Centre, Plant Manager of both Lingan and Glace Bay Generating Stations, Vice President of Transmission & Distribution, and Executive Vice President of Operations. He was made Chief Operating Officer of Emera and Nova Scotia Power in July 2003 and President and Chief Executive Officer of Emera in 2004.

 

Chris is Vice-Chair of the Canadian Electricity Association, and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia.  Chris serves on many for-profit and not-for-profit Boards of Directors.  He is Past-Chair of the Great Halifax Partnership and Past-Chair of the Energy Council of Canada.

 

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.

 
Nancy Tower

Nancy was appointed EVP and CFO in July 2010, after serving as chief financial officer of Emera Inc. since 2005. Prior to this, Nancy held senior positions at NSPI in corporate finance and operations, including controller and vice president of customer operations. Prior to joining Emera, Nancy worked with Grant Thornton, A.I.Tower and Ernst & Young. Throughout her career, Nancy has consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills and solid financial acumen.

Nancy is a leader in our community, currently serving on the Board of Directors of Nova Scotia Business Inc., as well as, the Advisory Council of the Dalhousie University Corporate Residency MBA Program.  She is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the QEII Foundation, and the Board of Directors of CAA Atlantic.  Nancy is the former Chair of the Nova Scotia Institute of Chartered Accountants.  She is a graduate of DalhousieUniversity.

Rob B

Rob Bennett

Rob was appointed president and chief executive officer of Nova Scotia Power Inc. in June 2008. His previous position with the company was executive vice-president, Revenue and Sustainability.

Before rejoining Nova Scotia Power in September 2007, Rob served for two years as president and chief operating officer of Bangor Hydro Electric Company in Maine . Prior to his tenure as president at Bangor Hydro, he was general manager, Transmission and Distribution Asset Management.

Rob joined Nova Scotia Power in 1988. He held positions as a staff engineer, protection engineer, superintendent of Annapolis Hydro and regional manager for the Northeastern Region. Rob serves on the Boards of Directors of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, St. Francis Xavier University and is a director of the Children's Wish Foundation.

Wayne Crawley

At Emera Wayne is president and CEO of ICD Utilities Limited and is responsible to grow Emera’s Caribbean business. Prior to this leadership position, Wayne was Emera vice president of Corporate Development and Corporate Strategy. Development transactions included Brunswick Pipeline, Grand Bahama Power Company, Open Hydro, Northeast Reliability Interconnect, St. Lucia Electric, Bear Swamp generation and Bangor Hydro Electric.

A native of Nova Scotia, Wayne received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, from Saint Mary’s University and completed his CA designation with Deloitte. Wayne is past chair of the Board of Governors for the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC); Board member and chair of the Audit Committee for Trade Centre Limited, chair of Barbados Light & Power Holdings and chair for the Nova Scotia Junior Achievement Hall of Fame.

Wayne also serves on the Board’s of the Grand Bahama Power Company and Open Hydro Generation Company in Ireland. Wayne is a member of both the Atlantic Canadian Chapter and Bahamian Chapter of YPO (Young President’s Organization).

Wayne was honoured in 2001 as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40.

Sarah MacDonald

Sarah MacDonald, B.A., LL.B., M.B.A.
Executive Vice President, Human Resources, Emera Inc.; Vice President, Human Resources, NSPI; CEO, Emera Utility Services, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Sarah was appointed EVP of Human Resources, and CEO of EUS in July 2010, after serving as vice president of Human Resources for Emera since 2004. Prior to this, Sarah was general manager of Human Resources for Nova Scotia Power since 2001. She was also the president and chief operating Officer of Emera Utility Services, the largest utility services contractor in Atlantic Canada. Prior to joining Emera, Sarah worked in employment law, labour relations and human resources, primarily in the health care field.

 

Sarah takes pleasure in donating her time to her community, currently serving as chair of the IWK Health Centre's Centennial Committee, and acting as a Director for the Dalhousie Board of Governors. She is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Human Resources Association of Nova Scotia and is a Certified Human Resources Professional. Sarah graduated from DalhousieLawSchool in 1992 and received her M.B.A. from St. Mary's University in 2002.

Ray Robinson

Ray Robinson, P. Eng.
Vice President, Integrated Operations, Emera Inc., Halifax, Nova Scotia

Ray is Vice President of integrated operations for Emera, and, as such, he is responsible for the closing and integration of new acquisitions into the Emera organization, with a current focus on the Caribbean. This mandate has included three years as the president and chief operating officer of Bangor Hydro Electric Company. He remains as vice chair of its board, as well as serving on Lucelec’s and the Grand Bahama Power Company's board of directors. He has also served terms as president of Emera Utility Services and as a member of the Joint Owners Committee of Bear Swamp Power Company.

Prior to Emera, Ray was the president and chief executive officer of Yukon Energy Corporation, as well as holding various senior positions at West Kootenay Power and Nelson Hydro in British Columbia, St. Catharine’s Hydro and Canadian Niagara Power in Ontario, Bowater Mersey Paper Company in Nova Scotia and the City of Calgary Electric System in Alberta.



 

Rick Smith

Rick Smith

Rick became vice-president Corporate Insurance and Asset Protection in September 2008. He is responsible for the corporate insurance portfolio for Emera and all of its affiliated companies which includes the assessment of risk and the protection of insurable assets. Previously, Rick served as corporate secretary and as general counsel of Emera and its affiliated companies in Canada, and was an officer of Emera's affiliated companies in the United States. During the privatization of Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) in 1992, he was a lead management representative, and during the reorganization of NSPI and creation of Emera Inc. in 1999, Rick was lead counsel.

He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, the Institute of Corporate Directors, the Canadian Society of Corporate Secretaries, the Council of Senior Legal executives, and the Risk and Insurance Management Society.

A native of Nova Scotia, Rick has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary's University and a law degree from Dalhousie University.

Stephen Aftanas

Stephen became the corporate secretary for Emera Inc. and Nova Scotia Power Inc. in 2008. Previously Stephen held the position of associate corporate secretary, prior to that he served as associate general counsel for Nova Scotia Power and Senior Solicitor, Emera.

Before joining Emera in 2002, Stephen practiced corporate and commercial law as a partner with a Halifax law firm. Stephen practiced law in Winnipeg for several years prior to relocating to Halifax. An active member of the community, Stephen is past Chair of the Board of Governors of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Robert Hanf

Bob was appointed CEO of Bangor Hydro Electric in January 2010. Prior to this, Bob served as president and chief operating officer of Bangor Hydro since 2007. He had previously served as general counsel for Emera and its affiliates since 2002. Prior to Emera, Bob was a partner with the law firm McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

Bob is a member of the Canadian and American Bar Associations, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, and the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation.

Placing a high value on community leadership,  Bob currently serves as a board member of the United Way of Eastern Maine as well as an advisor to the Manna Ministries, an agency working in the greater Bangor area to provide basic necessities to those in need. He is a graduate of the DalhousieUniversityLawSchool. Bob recently completed the Directors Education Program through the Institute of Corporate Directors at the University of Toronto.


 

Jim Spurr

James Spurr
General Counsel and Vice President, Government Relations, Emera Inc., Halifax, Nova Scotia

James joined Emera in 2007, having previously practiced in the energy sector and the public service of Nova Scotia. He is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association.

James is a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Neptune Theatre Foundation. He has also endowed the James Spurr Environmental Law bursary at the Schulich School of Law at DalhousieUniversity.

He was educated in Halifax at Saint Mary's University (BSc '74, MBA '76) and Dalhousie University Law School (1980). He was admitted to the Bar in Nova Scotia in 1981.

 

Wayne O'Connor

Wayne has been integral to the establishment and growth of energy marketing and trading at Emera since joining the company in 2003.

With over 20 years of experience in the energy marketing business across North America, Wayne brings extensive knowledge in the gas and electricity markets, related financial products and risk management to the company, benefitting both Emera Energy and its clients. Wayne previously held the position of Vice-President, Operations for Emera Energy, where he managed a professional staff of traders and schedulers for both electricity and natural gas. In 2008, he was promoted to chief operating Officer and now has executive responsibility for all aspects of the operation.

Prior to joining Emera Energy, Wayne worked with TransCanada Power and TransCanada Gas Services, divisions of TransCanada Pipelines.

Helping to serve his community Wayne serves on the Board of Governors of Armbrae Academy. An Alberta native, Wayne has a Bachelor of Management, Marketing, from the University of Lethbridge.
