OpenHydro

OpenHydro Group Limited, an Irish renewable tidal energy company, designs and manufactures marine turbines that harness energy from tidal currents under the world's oceans – silently and invisibly generating electricity at no cost to the environment.

OpenHydro has developed a unique Open-Centre Turbine technology that is environmentally friendly. Its commercial scale test turbine is operating at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, Scotland.

Emera Inc. acquired an 7.5% interest in OpenHydro and holds one seat on OpenHydro's seven member Board of Directors. Nova Scotia Power, an Emera company, selected OpenHydro's Open-Centre Turbine technology for deployment in a tidal energy demonstration project in the Bay of Fundy.

The turbine was deployed in November 2009, and will be tested for one to two years, along with two other in-stream turbine technologies selected by the Province of Nova Scotia.
