OpenHydro - Unique approach to renewable generation

OpenHydro Group Limited, an Irish renewable tidal energy company, designs and manufactures marine turbines for harnessing energy from tidal currents under the world's oceans – silently and invisibly generating electricity at no cost to the environment. OpenHydro has developed a unique Open-Centre Turbine technology that is environmentally friendly. Its commercial scale test turbine is operating at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, Scotland.

Emera Inc. acquired a 8.2% interest in OpenHydro and holds one seat on OpenHydro's seven member Board of Directors. Nova Scotia Power, an Emera company, selected OpenHydro's Open-Centre Turbine technology for deployment in a tidal energy demonstration project in the Bay of Fundy. The turbine will be deployed in late 2009, and will be tested for one to two years, along with two other in-stream turbine technologies selected by the Province of Nova Scotia.
