Bangor Hydro Electric Company supplies energy to over 117,000 customers in eastern Maine by delivering electricity through its 9,000-kilometre transmission and distribution system. With a focus on operational excellence, Bangor Hydro invests in the development, safety and wellbeing of their 278 employees. It’s also taking important steps toward providing customers with energy solutions through the implementation of Smart Grid technology, expanding the electric transmission grid to accommodate renewable generation and improve reliability, as well as promoting economic development.

This wholly-owned subsidiary, with total assets of $714 million, makes up 20% of Emera’s customer base. Acquired in 2001, Bangor Hydro establishes a strategic foothold in the rapidly developing northeastern energy market.
