Emera Inc. Announces Change to Board of Directors of Nova Scotia Power – December 1, 2008
HALIFAX – December 1, 2008 (EMA: TSX) Today Emera announced plans for the transition of the Chair of the Board of Directors of Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI). George Caines, a partner in the Halifax office of Stewart McKelvey, will assume the position of Chair of the Board of Directors of NSPI, effective May 6, 2009. Mr. Caines will take over from John McLennan, who will be appointed to replace Derek Oland as Chair of the Board of NSPI's parent company, Emera Inc.
Mr. Caines has been a Director of NSPI since 1995 and is currently the Chair of NSPI's Audit Committee. From 1998 to 2006, Mr. Caines was a member of the Emera Board of Directors and also served as Chair of Emera's Audit Committee.

Mr. Caines is also President of the Neptune Theatre Foundation, a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Past Chairman of the Tax Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia Branch, former member of the Joint Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants on Taxation.
Mr. Caines practice areas include corporate/commercial, owner-managed business, public-private partnerships and property leasing. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Caines was identified as one of the leading 500 lawyers in Canada by the Lexpert(R)/American Lawyer Guide.
Mr. Caines holds a BA from the University of King's College and an LL.B from DalhousieUniversity. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1961 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1976.
