Brunswick Pipeline Partners with Louisbourg Pipelines Construction contractor selected for proposed natural gas pipeline

SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick, April 30, 2007:
Brunswick Pipeline announced today it has awarded a conditional contract to Louisbourg Pipelines to construct the proposed 145-km natural gas pipeline from the Canaport LNG terminal to connect with the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline near St. Stephen, New Brunswick . The project is subject to approval by the National Energy Board (NEB).

“Selection of the right contractor is an essential building block to a successful project,” said Nancy MacLeod, Manager, Community Relations at Brunswick Pipeline. “Louisbourg Pipelines' extensive knowledge and experience in pipeline construction will ensure we establish a safe, reliable pipeline system.”

As General Contractor, Louisbourg Pipelines will be responsible for the majority of work associated with the construction of the proposed pipeline. This will include right-of way clearing, grading, excavating, welding, installing the pipe, backfilling the trench, testing, and right-of-way restoration.

“We are very pleased to have been selected to be a part of this important energy project in New Brunswick ,” said Walter Martinel lo, President of Louisbourg Pipelines. “We look forward to contributing in a significant way and working proactively with Brunswick Pipeline and its project stakeholders in planning the work.”

“By engaging the contractor early, we will be able to draw on their expertise as we carry out planning activities over the next several months in advance of construction,” said MacLeod. “The planning work immediately ahead of us includes project opportunities information sessions, engineering design, environmental planning, detailed routing, and site specific construction and restoration plans.”

The project will bring millions of dollars in direct and indirect economic benefits to the region through construction work and supplies. As General Contractor for the project Louisbourg Pipelines is eager to maximize opportunities for local workers, businesses and First Nation organizations, and will provide first consideration to New Brunswickers where competitive.

“We will look first to businesses based in Atlantic Canada to fill requirements for subcontractors, goods and services,” said Martinello. “We will award subcontracts on the basis of fair price, availability of the product and the best service.”

Project Opportunities Information Sessions will be held this spring to give an overview of the work for this project, provide information about local business opportunities, augment Brunswick Pipeline's local services and suppliers project database, and answer specific questions about the pipeline construction process .
