Nova Scotia Power Counsels Employees
Halifax, Nova Scotia, June 14, 2002: Nova Scotia Power employees have been reminded that support services are available to them. The reminder was issued following the tragic death of 37-year-old line technician Michael Murrin who was killed this morning as a result of an accident involving a transport truck on Mira Road in Sydney. There were no live power lines involved in the accident.
Those providing counseling have been advised of the accident and employees have been provided with information on how to access the confidential Employee Assistance Service.
Chris Huskilson, Chief Operating Officer of Nova Scotia Power Inc., said: "Our first and immediate concern has been for Mike's family. We are doing everything we can to support them."
Recognizing that this is an extremely difficult time for power line technicians, Nova Scotia Power has stopped all non-essential power line work across the province. Managers at power generating plants have been asked to use their discretion with regard to providing necessary support for those working in the plants.
