Emera Fuels Launched
Halifax, Nova Scotia, August 15, 2000 (EMA - TSE) - The Emera name will soon appear on fuel trucks in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. A group of five fuel companies, owned by Emera but operating under a variety of names, will be known as Emera Fuels. Emera Fuels offers a range of fuel products and services to residential and business customers. The launch of Emera Fuels supports Emera's strategy of becoming the customer's choice in energy and services.
"Emera Fuels wants to be a leader in customer service and the key to that is being responsive to customer needs. The five companies that make up Emera Fuels already have personal, local relationships with customers, so we have a great start. In fact, a recent survey showed 98% of our customers would recommend us to others," says Bill Sanford, General Manager of Emera Fuels.
Emera Fuels has locations in Dartmouth, New Glasgow, Shubenacadie, Truro, Arichat, Amherst, St Peter's, Cheticamp and Moncton.
Emera Fuels will also offer a network of state-of-the-art, self-serve dispensers of diesel oil and gasoline. Referred to as "cardlocks", these dispensers are located at six sites with high commercial truck traffic.
Emera Inc. (EMA - TSE) is a diversified energy and services company, with 440,000 customers and $2.9 billion in assets. Its wholly-owned operating subsidiary, Nova Scotia Power Inc., is a regulated electric utility that supplies over 95% of the electric generation, transmission and distribution in Nova Scotia. Emera also delivers bunker oil, diesel fuel and light fuel oil through Emera Fuels, and has a 12.5 per cent interest in the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, which delivers Sable Island natural gas to markets in Maritime Canada and the northeastern United States. On June 30, 2000, Emera announced it will acquire all of the common shares of Bangor Hydro-Electric Company (NYSE - BGR), a regulated electric transmission and distribution business operating in Maine. The transaction is valued at approximately $305 million, and is subject to BGR shareholder, and regulatory approval.
