More Potential for Tidal Energy

Nova Scotia Power has partnered with Irish firm OpenHydro to explore a new source of tidal energy for Nova Scotia. As part of a test project that will help to determine the feasibility of harnessing tidal energy on a commercial scale. In November 2009, NSPI deployed a 10-metre, 1MW in-stream tidal turbine in the Minas Passage of the Bay of Fundy.

In December 2010, the tidal turbine was successfully retrieved from the bay, marking another important milestone for tidal energy in Nova Scotia.
