More Potential for Tidal Energy

With the only tidal power plant in the western hemisphere, Nova Scotia Power Inc. has long been a leader in tidal energy development. Last year, NSPI’s new tidal demonstration project received funding approval, so NSPI and OpenHydro of Ireland are going ahead with plans to put a turbine in the Bay of Fundy in 2009. If successful, a full tidal energy farm would follow, making it the largest in-stream tidal generating unit integrated into an electricity grid in the world.
