Bangor Hydro Giving to the Challenger
The Challenger Learning Centre in Maine fosters a love of math, science and technology in young students. With a $25,000 donation from Bangor Hydro, they will be able to launch an awareness campaign and scholarship program to inspire these students to achieve higher levels of education. The centre was founded by the families of the seven astronauts who died in 1986 when the space shuttle Challenger exploded.
Another Bright Idea from NSPI Employees
NSPI employees wanted to “help those who help” by giving energy savings assistance to not-for-profit organizations. Nine Transition Houses and two Phoenix Youth Facilities across Nova Scotia have benefited from the generosity of NSPI employees. They received energy efficient consultations and new energy efficient light bulbs.
Powering Hope for New Homes
Bangor Hydro and NSPI both support Habitat for Humanity in making sure they have the power they need to make dreams come true for local families. Many employees helped out the cause by dedicating a day to work on projects in both regions.
St. Paddy’s Bash Raises Money for Kids’ Burn Camp
Even more kids are enjoying a week of fun at the Atlantic Burn Camp for Kids thanks to the generosity of some talented NSPI employees from Cape Breton. These musicians bring down the house as the donations roll in at a concert for the Nova Scotia Power Employees’ St. Patrick’s Day Bash held in Sydney, NS. The employees raised nearly $6,000 and NSPI topped up the donation to $10,000.
Leading the Way with United Way
In 2007, Emera, Nova Scotia Power Inc., and Bangor Hydro followed the lead of their generous employees by matching their contributions to The United Way. Employees were thrilled to hand over cheques worth more than $570,000 to support dozens of programs and organizations that build communities across the region.
Green Screen Challenge
NSPI was proud to sponsor the Green Screen Challenge as part of ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth. In a drive to raise awareness about energy efficiency with youth through youth, young people had the chance to create and submit short films or animations about energy efficiency and conservation relevant to their communities.
