Bangor Hydro helps to re- establish Big Brothers Big Sisters

Bangor Hydro has taken a lead role in the re-establishment of Big Brothers Big Sisters to Penobscot county, Maine, a primary region within our service area. At the start of 2011 Bangor Hydro made a three- year charitable commitment to BBBS of Mid Coast Maine in support of their efforts to set up an office to service children in Penobscot county in need of positive role models and mentors.

Support extends beyond just a charitable donation; a member of the Bangor Hydro senior management team serves on the BBBS Board of Directors, many employees took part in the organization's primary fundraiser, 'Bowl for Kids' Sake', the corporate relations department designed a new brochure to promote the charitable organization and, perhaps most importantly, several employees have made personal commitments to volunteer as Big Brothers or Big Sisters.

To quote Alex Gaeth, CEO of Big Brother Big Sisters of Mid Coast Maine, "We would not have been able to give the children of Penobscot County opportunity to succeed in life were it not for the terrific support of Bangor Hydro Electric Company. Big Brothers Big Sisters is thrilled to have a community partner like Bangor Hydro, and the citizens of the region are fortunate to have such a caring business in its midst."

In 2010, the tournament raised over $57,000, enough to push it past the $1 million dollar mark over 25 years. Proceeds from the event have helped fund significant advances in CF research.
