Storing Green Energy Bear Swamp is a 600 MW pumped storage hydro-electric generating facility on the Deerfield River in northern Massachusetts. It’s one of only two of its kind in New England, making Bear Swamp a uniquely versatile and flexible energy asset. It produces a highly reliable source of energy, which allows Emera to ensure sustainable growth. Bear Swamp fulfilled a goal in 2007 by signing a long-term agreement to provide energy, capacity and ancillary services to Long Island Power Authority for a significant portion of its output. With its sights set on a greener future, Bear Swamp is hoping serve as a storage facility for intermittent renewable energy. |
